The Harare City Council (HCC) has said garbage collections across the Capital City have been greatly affected by the shortage of fuel which they are currently facing.
The fuel supply constraints have been attributed to a delay in the delivery of fuel to the council by their supplier.
In a statement on Wednesday council said they had paid their suppliers but they had delayed to deliver the fuel supplies.
Council promised to keep the residents updated when the fuel arrives.
“Garbage collection is being affected by a shortage of fuel. Council has paid for its supplies and is yet to get delivery of the product. We will update when we receive fuel,” reads the statement.
This means residents will live side-by-side with garbage until a point where the suppliers delivers the fuel to council, then they will resume collections presenting citizens of the capital with yet another potential health hazard.
Uncollected refuse is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and other diseases.
Queries have been raised by residents over the issue of continued poor service despite them paying rates on time.
Poor service delivery by the Municipality can potentially lead to outbreaks of diseases that can endanger people’s lives.
Council has recently been under fire from both central Government and residents accusing them of failing to provide adequate service delivery to Harare residents.
