Regional airliner, Air Tanzania will on Friday start operating flights between Dar es Salaam and Harare as the two countries deepen economic and trade links.

Previously, both countries were being serviced by low-cost carrier Fastjet, but the airliner has been struggling of late.

Air Tanzania will fly to Harare three times a week.

According to the airline’s website, a return trip between the two main cities is expected to cost around $371.

Founded in 1977, Air Tanzania, which is wholly owned by the government, currently owns seven aircraft.

The airline is servicing over 15 destinations in African and abroad.

Officials in the aviation industry said Air Tanzania will use its recently acquired Airbus A220 to service the Harare route.

The Tanzanian airline last year became the first African carrier to take delivery of the Airbus A220 aircraft, the newest addition to the Airbus family of commercial aircraft.

Air Tanzania is the latest amongst African airlines among them Rwanda Air, South African Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Kenyan Airways that are already flying to Zimbabwe’s Capital.
