Happy Primary School and Irene Christian College took center stage at the Private Schools Expo over the weekend, held at the Celebration Centre in Borrowdale, Harare.
The schools emphasised the growing significance of life skills in the modern education system, capturing the attention of attendees with their innovative approach.
Mrs. Delight Timuri, the human resources executive for Irene Christian College, underscored the need for practical skills to be integrated into the curriculum for both boys and girls. She emphasized the vital role of these skills in preparing students for the challenges of the real world.
“Today’s students need life skills, regardless of gender. They have to know how to cook, change a car tire, and check coolant. At Happy Primary School and Irene Christian College, this is how we have designed our education system. We want our students to be more practical and to be able to survive out there, in the real world.”
The expo, organised by the Zimbabwe Academic Trust, drew schools from various towns, providing parents with a comprehensive platform to gather information about different educational institutions.
Over 55 schools participated, offering prospective students and parents a valuable opportunity to explore diverse educational options under one roof.
Mrs. Benadette Tuso, the marketing officer for the Private Schools Expo, highlighted the event’s role in aiding parents and students in making informed decisions about their educational needs.
“This event is specially designed to help students and parents make informed decisions about their educational needs as it bridges the gap between different schools in different towns and cities.”
In addition to their success at the expo, Irene Christian College recently made headlines with the outstanding achievements of two of its students, Jayden Nyawata and Alicia Thomas, in the prestigious Cambridge International Examinations.
Their remarkable performances in the Cambridge International IGCSE and AS examinations are a testament to the unwavering commitment to quality education at Irene Christian College and the broader Zimbabwean education system.
Furthermore, the college’s new campus at 14 Adylinn Road in Marlborough, Harare, has created a buzz in the educational landscape.
This development marks a significant milestone for the college, offering secondary school students an extraordinary learning environment like no other.
The visionary leader and principal of Irene Christian College, Mr. Gerald Machiri, hailed the results as a validation of the high-quality education imparted by the institution, attributing their achievements to the unwavering support and guidance provided by the dedicated staff at Irene Christian College.
Irene Christian College’s new campus features cutting-edge infrastructure, including individual labs for each science discipline and a state-of-the-art sports field, aiming to expand their sports program and nurture the talents of their students.
Additionally, the college takes a unique approach to the IGCSE curriculum, allowing students to commence specialisation as early as Form 2.
