The Zimbabwe Republic Police have made more than 135 270 arrests for contravening the national lockdown regulations since March this year.

Speaking on ‘Crime Watch’, Police National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi encouraged people to comply with the set guidelines so as to save lives.

“It is within the interest of each and every Zimbabwean to comply with all measures put in place.

“We implore supermarkets and their management’s to ensure that as people wait to access goods and services they practice social distancing, wear masks and note that there is no need for anyone to be complacent,” he said.

Nyathi expressed concern over the banned commuter buses that are illegally carrying people at night.

“Police is concerned with the private taxes which are moving at night breaching the lockdown regulations, they are putting the lives of the people they are carrying at danger.”

He added that police will continue to clamp down on people operating shabens as these are illegal activities that are not in line with phase 2 regulations.
