Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is set to be the 1st African and 1st woman to lead the WTO, after the other candidate dropped out.
United States ex-President Donald Trump tried to block her for someone with “real” experience.
She was Nigeria’s finance minister (twice) and spent 25 years as a World Bank economist.
Ngozi is a Nigerian-American economist and international development expert. She sits on the Boards of Standard Chartered Bank, Twitter, Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), and the African Risk Capacity (ARC).
She tweeted earlier today:
“I look forward to finalizing the process of @WTO DG. My gratitude to HE @CyrilRamaphosa, all African Heads of State, the AUC Chair. Special thanks to ECOWAS Heads of State for outstanding support. I thank @PressACP, @Miaamormottley, EU, all Officials & Leaders of WTO Members.”
