Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has said he will not be forced out of Town House by a non-existent political party.
On Friday last week Progressive Democratic Political Party wrote to Local Government Minister July Moyo informing him of the recall.
In an interview with one of the local broadcasters Mafume denied being recalled.
“I have not been recalled, people cannot just write a letter from the street calling themselves people from my party and expect that to be effective.
“No serious government will obey that letter unless they want to be a mockery of democracy and Zimbabwean institutions.
“What we should focus on are the needs of the residents who want stability, we are talking of about 4 million people who need stability at Town House and government cannot contribute to the instability by accepting letters from the street as if they were written from Moses mountainous tablet on a rock,” fumed Mafume.
Progressive Democratic Political Party spokesperson Nqobizitha Khumalo emphasized that ignoring the letter will be defying the government and his party will take appropriate action against Mafume.
“We have fired Jacob Mafume because he is a member of our party.
He went into the Alliance as our member and from the life of the Alliance when it became a political party he later claimed to be a member of that party and this was way after the elections.
“We have followed all the due processes of re-calling him.”
