State-run fixed telecommunications operator TelOne has launched ‘Impact Learning’, an e-learning platform – that will improve the capacities of its already existing Centre for Learning.
The growth of e-learning platforms has been steady over the years. But the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the need and usage of online educational platforms.
TelOne managing director Dr Chipo Mtasa said the company had long had an e-learning platform in view of the social distancing requirements necessitated by the coronavirus outbreak.
“Impact Learning is a digital solution which will help develop digitally enabled training and education institutions.
“Together with our connectivity solutions Impact Learning will empower trainers and training institutions to be able to equip their students with necessary skills and knowledge with ease,” said TelOne managing director Chipo Mtasa at the launch event.
“Besides reaching out and connecting to their current students Impact Learning also enables training institutions to recruit and train students in different geographic areas.
“This means even after the lockdown restrictions have been lifted a school can still operate classes on Impact Learning.”
She added that Impact Learning will be tied to the company’s educational centre – the TelOne Centre For Learning (TCFL).
“We were also forced to introspect to see how enabled we were. It is interesting to note that as part of our vision, we had a plan for the digitisation of TelOne Centre for Learning.
“The first part of the digitisation process was the development of an e-learning platform to allow our students to be able to learn online. The digitisation of TCFL had been initiated with the e-learning platform Impact Learning already in place.
“The system became handy as our lecturers were able to migrate their training from physical classroom to the virtual classes on Impact Learning platform,” she said.
“Lectures were continued online smoothly. This system became a tool to replace the physical classroom.
“We have also used the system for our internal staff development and training and it has really worked well to help equip our staff with necessary skills.”
