Africa’s fashion spotlight is about to shine on Zimbabwe as the country recently launched SUPERMODEL, a groundbreaking competition and brand dedicated to discovering the next generation of modeling talent.
With an emphasis on refining beauty, talent, and character to an international standard, SUPERMODEL is poised to offer its winners global exposure and coveted model contracts, propelling them into the prestigious realm of international brands and agencies.
The inaugural phase of the competition is scheduled to commence with a nationwide search in the City of Kings (Bulawayo) on the 6th of July, 2024, followed by a series of live challenges, catwalks, face challenges, and auditions spanning various cities and towns in Zimbabwe over the coming months, culminating in the finals on the 1st of March, 2025.
The 20 finalists will be offered contracts with the SUPERMODEL agency, providing them with opportunities to engage in diverse roles within the modeling industry, irrespective of race, background, size, or age, thereby contributing to the advancement of the fashion design industry in Zimbabwe.
Beyond showcasing the modeling talent of the country, SUPERMODEL aims to shine a light on the multifaceted individuals contributing to Zimbabwe’s creative economy, including filmmakers, fashion designers, makeup artists, photographers, and more. Additionally, the competition fervently supports the Wear Zimbabwe campaign, promoting the use of local designs and fortifying the Zimbabwean fashion design industry.
At the recent launch event held at the Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles, Paidemoyo Chideya, a representative of SUPERMODEL, expressed the initiative’s commitment to not only celebrating beauty and talent but also leaving a lasting positive impact on the lives of the finalists.
“We are committed to providing business training and support, ensuring that our finalists have the opportunity to succeed in the business of fashion, as part of our corporate social responsibility,” she said.
The SUPERMODEL competition has generated great anticipation within the nation as it promises to showcase the extraordinary beauty of Zimbabwe and document the journey for all stakeholders to witness and participate in.
“We need a village to raise this child. We firmly believe this initiative will bring out the bright sparks of our nation as we nurture and identify talent in the creative industries,” added Chideya.
More than just a competition, the launch of SUPERMODEL marks the beginning of a movement that aims to firmly establish Zimbabwe on the global map of fashion and creativity.
With an unwavering commitment to discovering and nurturing talent, Zimbabwe is setting the stage for a remarkable journey of discovery and empowerment, serving as the blueprint for the future of fashion in Africa.
