People may still move bodies of deceased relatives – who passed on from the highly infectious Covid-19 virus – from one city to another for burial, providing certain standards are met, Government has clarified.

A statement issued Sunday intimated that movement of bodies had been banned in toto.

However, the Ministry of Health and Child Care on Monday clarified the latest regulations meant to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The ministry said, “For those who want to transport the body for burial outside the city or town of death, they should ensure that the body is hermetically sealed in a triple coffin before collection of body from funeral parlour or hospital mortuary”.

Body viewing remains prohibited, while mourners will be required to keep a 4 metre distance away from coffin, during burial.

Under the new regulations, bodies will be moved straight from the parlour to the burial site.

Grave yards will be disinfected immediately after burial.
