Zimbabwe is pushing for the formulation of the African Tourism Organization at the participating at the Second Ordinary Session of the Africa Union Specialised Technical Committee on Transport; Transcontinental and Inter-Regional Infrastructure, Energy and Tourism in Cairo, Egypt.
The delegation is led by the Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Priscah Mupfumira.
The event is running until April 18, 2019.
The session, running under the theme “Developing Smart Infrastructure to boost Africa’s Continental Transformation and Integration”, will take stock of the 2017 – 2019 Plan of Action and set course for the continent for the next 2years.

This 2nd session also witnesses the election of the new STC Bureau as outgoing Chairs hand over their Chairmanship.
Minister Mupfumira who has been representing the country as the 2nd Vice Chair of the Bureau and Chair of the Tourism Sub-Committee hands over her Chairmanship after successful strides noted by the member states, who expressed satisfaction at the commitment and progressive leadership displayed.
Of note, is the historical feat in the accomplishment of the following key milestones for the Continental Tourism under the Chairmanship of Zimbabwe: Leading in the formulation of the African Tourism Strategic Framework (ATSF); leading in the formulation of the African Tourism Organisation (ATO); and finally leading in the creation of a Tourism Unit in the structures of the African Union Commission (AUC).
