Government have reassured the public that the resumption of international flights on October 1 is on course and all necessary preventative measures are in place to avoid the further spread of Covid-19.

Addressing the media at a post-Cabinet briefing, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said government’s response to the pandemic have prevented the catastrophic outbreak and the Ministry of Health had carried assessments on major ports of entry.

“The imminent opening of the Victoria Falls International Airport is well on course and the assessments of other major airports have been completed.

“The Ministry of Health and Child Care has held a special consultative meeting with the key stakeholders in the tourism industry and provided technical guidance on the implementation of standards and procedures on the re-opening of designated ports of entry.”

She added agreed that in order to make sure of the safety of the citizens, Statutory Instrument 216, Section 8 will be effected which requires travelers showing Covid-19 symptoms, whether or not they have a Covid-19 free certificate to be tested for a fee.

“A nominal fee of US$60 shall be levied on travelers on ports of entry and the proceeds will be used to replenish laboratory commodities.

“Also meter taxis have been allowed to resume services to allow for the movement of tourists and citizens who are unable to use public transport.”
